“The iOS 6 Maps are Amazing. Not”
Sep 24th
This past week or so, we’ve been bombarded with Apple news everywhere, whether we are Apple fanatic or not, we had to listen. Yet, yesterday, it was not all sunshine and rainbows for the Tech Giant for it faced major ridicule due to its ill-performing new maps tool.
The tech behemoth abandoned Google maps and replaced it with its very own Maps App, one that operates through the usage of data that is provided by navigation systems such as Tom Tom. Yet, it seems that Apple was too quick to launch the App for users were quick to notice the many ways the company erred.
Ireland’s very own Minister for Justice, Alan Shatter, voiced his dissatisfaction with the iOS 6 system that placed an airfield in the middle of a city farm.
The 3D function also hit many faulty notes such as misplacing many well-known landmarks, placing streets over bodies of water, not to mention the foggy, distorted images.
Disappointed iPhone users were quick to share their horrific experiences by uploading their ‘map fails’ onto a Tumblr blog, which quite bluntly declare “The Apple iOS 6 Maps are amazing. Not.”
The conversation has been so viral that it became trending on Twitter with tons of dissatisfied users sharing ways of reverting to the preceding Google maps function.
Tom Tom clearly dissociated itself from the faulty App, stating it solely provided Apple with the data and was in no way responsible for how that data was used.
A spokesman justified the malfunction saying that the user experience will be enhanced once more users will start to contribute as well as adding additional features such as visual imagery.
“We are confident about our map quality, as selling 65 million portable navigation devices across the world and more than 1.4m TomTom apps for iPhone in the past two years reaffirms this quality.”
In addition to Maps, Apple has also decided to abandon its native YouTube App. A dedicated YouTube App was instantly released and surly enough, performed considerably better than its predecessor.
Well, facts are facts, and Google has a record of more than 7 years in the business of digital mapping, a period that has allowed for them to build a substantial amount of invaluable data. Apple is surly mislead if it thinks they will come even close in the next year or years. Rumor has it, that Google Maps is working on an iOS dedicated app and is just pending Apple’s approval; we don’t know about you but we’re not too keen on Apple’s approval.

The next big thing; is it the iPhone 5 or the Samsung Galaxy S3?
Sep 19th

We don’t know how they do it, but yes, yet again Apple’s new flagship iPhone is on the roll and breaking one record after the other. Apple is certainly not being modest about it; clearly stating that this is the best Smartphone to have been launched on planet Earth (a bit exaggerated? We think so too), yet their fan base still seem to flock by the thousands all over the United States. Just when we thought camping outside the Apple showrooms was so-last year, fans proved us wrong for they are and will be camping for the next four days up until the Cupertino-based technology company actually puts the magnificent device at its showrooms.
Apple is not to be blamed for having such a big ego; the iPhone 5 has just won over the title of the fastest selling Smartphone in the history of Smartphones by their legendary record of selling 2 million iPhone 5 pre-ordered handsets in a mere 24 hour interval. This number is sure to please Apple’s executives, and it is speculated that within the first week after the launch, numbers will boast even higher, as high as 10 million handsets.
Never the less, do not be a fool thinking Apple is going unchallenged in this competitive market. The 4.8 inch Samsung Galaxy S III is still getting a lot of love from avid Android fans and making it fly off the shelves faster than a hot pancake, and it has not suffered any setbacks since the launch of the iPhone 5. Statistics show that Samsung has sold what amounts to 25 million units of the Galaxy S3 since its launch over 3 months ago.
If you would like the latter for free, then be sure to enter our “Spot the Android” competition for a chance to win a brand new Samsung S3 + an unlimited lifetime G Cloud account. (Set previous blog post for details).
Here is a comprehensive comparison to make your choice a bit easier:
iPhone 5; the good, the bad and the ugly!
Sep 13th

All the around the world today, iPhone owners will be looking at their devices with sheer nausea; how could they have ever held those out dated gadgets, they shall wonder! So thick and such a small screen! Thank heavens for a new one arriving in the next couple of days.
Why yes, it’s that time of year, when Apple unveils their latest gadgets, from iPhone to iPods, and have millions of people faint from sheer excitement. Statistics speak for themselves, for according to Experian Hitwise, one in every 1,000 searches online last week in England alone was for the iPhone 5.
Despite Tim Cook’s confirmations that Apple would augment their already high level of secrecy, the Chief executive failed to stop the leakage of quite a huge amount of rumors that turned out to be true. Nonetheless, Apple did not fail to impress its die-hard fans with the message they wanted to pass through.
The new device is 20% lighter and 18% thinner than its predecessor, the iPhone 4S, yet it manages to run twice as fast, with graphics that also run twice as fast, owing to a new processor as Schiller said. The camera was also visited by the dream team, which now includes features such as a low-light mode and a panorama feature.
The iPhone 5 is Apple’s first Smartphone that is capable of 4G, the super-fast mobile broadband technology which you can read more about here.
Apple’s new announcement comes after quite a turbulent year. October of last year, just a day after the announcement of the iPhone 4S, Steve Jobs passed away. Some speculated that after the loss of the co-founder and chairman, the company would go downhill. If that is going to happen, there is very little sign of it so far.
Apple has been preoccupied with its global patent war with rival manufacturers, particularly Samsung, the Korean firm that now boasts selling more mobile devices than any other company. Samsung has conquered Apple in London, South Korea and Japan, cases in Germany have gone either way yet the big winner was Apple in the US- a verdict that awarded the iPhone creator $1 billion in damages.
Apple has, in the meantime, continued with its regular cycle of fresh products: a new iPad in March, new Macbook – together with an upgraded OS- in June, and of course a new version of iOS that the new iPhone 5 will be running on.
Some analysts feel that Apple’s weakness may lie with its operating system; since Android is evolving in an extremely swift pace with Microsoft pushing the sleekly designed Windows Phone 8, Apple could be left behind if it fails to keep up with their innovative nature.
“Without the continued innovation which we are accustomed to with Apple, the company risks losing consumer appeal. The iPhone re-defined the Smartphone category in 2007 but it cannot reply on past success to guarantee its future or rely on litigation to keep its competitors at bay.” Warned Adam Leach, an analyst with Ovum.
Apple has set out its plans for the new device but it will go on sale in a market that is tougher than ever.

Miiverse: the new social hub!
Jun 4th
Who says Nintendo is outdated? The company unveiled yesterday during its pre-E3 broadcast their next destination; the turbulent waters of social networking!
Yes, you read it correctly; Nintendo’s new Wii U console will be embracing social networking through their new Miiverse which, in short, will serve as means for people to share thoughts, make friends, and discuss games, swap notes, post doodles, offer guides for games as well as a multitude of other interactions.
No more walled-garden philosophy for Nintendo, as the Miiverse will not only be accessible on the Wii U, but on the 3DS, PC and – efficaciously- the iPhone and other smartphones.
It seems that Nintendo is abandoning all of its old habits, allowing the Miiverse to be attainable even on games that offer no connectivity.
The eminent Mii plaza, first introduced on the Wii, will now open its gates to more friends and connections. Wii U is going to be the new social hub and new hang out spot for those playing the same games. Miis shall be saved on the system itself, as well as friends getting connected!
Nintendo’s ultimate aspiration is to refashion the Mii plaza and convert it into a comprehensive, live forum for all Wii U users.
Further features included video conferencing, with the Wii U tablet controller filming the user while the TV screen displays the signal from the other end, as demonstrated in the video:
The presentation,by the firm’s global president Satoru Iwata, said that when users turned on their console it would show animated avatars on the television screen flocking towards the most popular games at that time.
Company president, Satoru Iwata, designated the Miiverse as being an extensive online social hub, and to showcase how seriously Nintendo is taking online gaming, it will be the first thing gamers would see when switching on their new console.
We do not know yet how successful this new social hub would actually be, however, time and the masses will surly tell.

It’s what you do with what Nokia Lumia 900 does!
Apr 17th

Living in this fast paced world may be quite a hassle without the “right” smartphone to help guide you through your day.
Apple has been at the forefront for quite sometime now, even though Samsung seems to be catching up with its Galaxy S2 and rumoured Galaxy S3 to be released on May 3rd. However, we must not neglect Nokia’s well deserved efforts for a come back and trying to keep “ connecting people” with their Lumia 900. They’re even trying to win over the fellow gentlemen with their new ad that promises to win over the ladies in a similar way the Iphone used to do. Even though a brand new mobile gadget may send an aura of elegance and sophistication, we might not agree it will attract the right kind of females.
The video:
However, if you’re still not sold on buying the Lumia 900 once it’ll be released, here’s a comprehensive comparison chart that may aid you in the pursuit for the right smartphone.

Androids Are Six Times More Vulnerable to Malware Compared to iPhones
Nov 22nd
![]()

Android based mobile phones have witnessed a staggering 400% increase in malware attacks since the 3rd quarter of 2011.
With fame comes a price, Android’s smartphone market share is almost half, so it is just a matter of time until hackers and malware programmers will attack the giant, taking us back to the memories of Windows PCs’ viruses in the 90’s. It seems the blame goes to the fact that anyone that can afford $25 and a developer account can publish apps without any inspections or approval process. So it seems that the Apple’s App store’s long and grueling approval process does not sound like a bad idea if not having one is going to compromise with privacy and security.
The good news is that Google, unintentionally or maybe intentionally, is creating more jobs for anti-spyware and anti-malware developers for Android smart phones. Which does not seem like a bad idea in these tough economical times.
The bad news is that Android users should take extra precautions when giving apps access permissions and most importantly, to make sure that the Android phone has the latest patches and updates installed or suffer the consequence of getting an SMS trojan or even worse getting their personal information stolen.
