The Breathometer: No more DUI!

Smartphone-Breathalyzer

You know how they say, it’s always better to be safe than sorry. Well, with the latest DUI statistics, it’s safe to say this little keychain-sized device will come in handy.

Breathometer is a new breathalyzer that works with your Smartphone as a better gauge of your soberness. The pocket-sized piece of hardware easily plugs into your headphone jack. All you have to do next is blow into it and thus your result; your blood alcohol content. Yes, it’s that simple.

Charles Michael Yim, Breathometer founder, explained he had tested a couple other existing consumer breathalyzers and discovered none of which were all that convenient. They were either too bulky, too costly or too burdensome when it comes to measuring. The bigger issue is that most people did not even know consumer breathalyzers existed, and thus Yim and his team took it upom themselves to develop a more affordable and accessible device for the average user.

The Breathometer is part of an Indiegogo campaign that is structured in a way that depends on what you contribute; if someone contributes $100, they’ll be part of the company’s first drop-shipment of the device in July. However, if someone invests in just $20, they’ll have to wait until early next year.

According to a survey conducted by Breathometer and SodaHead.com, 64% of respondents showed they have either driven while intoxicated or been in a car with a driver under the influence. 67% indicated know someone who has been involved in an accident involving a DUI. And the scarier statistic of all is that 80% of respondents know someone who has been taken into custody for driving under the influence.

“Breathometer wasn’t created just to address the risks associated with drinking and driving, but to help people, their friends, and family, all to make smarter and safer choices when consuming alcohol. Real time BAC measurement is the first step,” stated Charles Michael Yim, founder and chief executive of Breathometer.

The device works well with both iOSand Android. The app makes it simple for you to connect to local transportation if you are impaired. The device will be available via Breathometer.com, the Apple iTunes App Store, and Google Play. Breathometer is awaiting approval from the Food and Drug Administration, and the company has applied for patents.
