While we await further comments from the company, lifehacker.com has blogged about an app that will allow for the detection of Carrier IQ on your smart phone without having to root your Android device. Here is a link to that article:

Microsoft’s Kinect is considered to be one of the most accurate motion capture devices around. And with Microsoft praising the Kinect hacks that have been floating around the internet, the Kinect’s power is growing everyday. However, the Kinect is being held back by it’s controller interface, the USB. The USB interface is limiting the amount of information that Kinect can stream into the Xbox. The 35 Megabytes support of data is not even delivering half of that, paralyzing the Kinect’s huge potential.

But not for long.. Microsoft is dropping the USB interface and cabling it straight to the hardware, so no more transit stops, just super fast transfer straight to the CPU or RAM. The next generation; Kinect or Kinect2, seems it will witness major performance enhancements like better motion sensor accuracy, better voice-recognition. This means that the device should create gameplay that is able to read the player’s emotions and tone, a great benefit for detective games such as L.A Noire.

Android based mobile phones have witnessed a staggering 400% increase in malware attacks since the 3rd quarter of 2011.

With fame comes a price, Android’s smartphone market share is almost half, so it is just a matter of time until hackers and malware programmers will attack the giant, taking us back to the memories of Windows PCs’ viruses in the 90’s. It seems the blame goes to the fact that anyone that can afford $25 and a developer account can publish apps without any inspections or approval process. So it seems that the Apple’s App store’s long and grueling approval process does not sound like a bad idea if not having one is going to compromise with privacy and security.

The good news is that Google, unintentionally or maybe intentionally, is creating more jobs for anti-spyware and anti-malware developers for Android smart phones. Which does not seem like a bad idea in these tough economical times.

The bad news is that Android users should take extra precautions when giving apps access permissions and most importantly, to make sure that the Android phone has the latest patches and updates installed or suffer the consequence of getting an SMS trojan or even worse getting their personal information stolen.

Adobe developer relations lead Mike Chambers has announced that they will be releasing the last version of Flash for mobile, version 11.1. This came after posting an explanation of why the company has decided to stop the development of the mobile browser version of flash, however the company assure that it will continue to provide critical bug fixes.

Adobe is trying to shift it’s focus now to HTML5 as part of a new strategy the company is adopting.

“The decision to stop development of the Flash Player plugin for mobile browsers was part of a larger strategic shift at Adobe,” writes Chambers. “One which includes a greater shift in focus toward HTML5, as well as the Adobe Creative Cloud and the services that it provides.”

These are the reasons Chambers has provided as to why flash is being dropped:

Flash was never going to gain ubiquity on mobile devices, thanks to the fact that Apple resolutely refused to adopt the technology on the iPhone or iPad. “No matter what we did, the Flash Player was not going to be available on Apple’s iOS anytime in the foreseeable future,” he says.

Meanwhile, HTML5 is ubiquitous. “On mobile devices, HTML5 provides a similar level of ubiquity that the Flash Player provides on the desktop,” Chambers says.

Users don’t consume content on mobile in the same way they do on desktop. Differences in screen sizes, latency from wireless networks and the ubiquity of app stores made Flash less relevant on handheld devices.

Developing browser plugins for mobile is much more challenging than the desktop. It requires more partnerships with OS developers, mobile hardware manufacturers and component manufacturers. “Developing the Flash Player for mobile browsers has proven to require much more resources than we anticipated,” Chambers admits.

While Flash will be around for many years to come, it’s clear that even Adobe thinks HTML5 is the future. Flash’s days are numbered.

With such a nifty price what comes in mind is that they will raise their price by the end of the month. But with their new technology “Hybrid Calling” their service will rely on wireless networks (WiFi) and fall back onto a phone carrier service, most likely sprint when out of range.

Sounds familiar? Well yes, we all know that some carriers like T-mobile have UMA (Unlicensed Mobile Access), but unlike T-Mobile, where you wont be switched automatically to WiFI when you initiate the call on their cell network, deducting unnecessary minutes. Rebulic wireless will automatically switch to WiFi instead of using the cell service. This might not be a great advantage since the plan is unlimited, but they also promise that there is no bandwidth cap.

The only catch is that you will need to purchase a dedicated device and since there is no contract it seems you will have to pay the device in full, but hey, $19 will be worth it especially to those who travel abroad and need to a cheap way to call the states. So fingers crossed on the pricing and quality of the device.

Here are the basics, from what we’ve heard from beta testers and the company:

The service will use what it’s calling “Hybrid Calling” — your phone will rely primarily on Wifi, whenever it’s available. It will fall back on cell networks, such as Sprint, when you aren’t connected to Wifi.

Users will not have to manually switch between Wifi and cellular — the phone will figure it out automatically

The service will require users to get a new phone. It’s unclear that whether there will be multiple models available initially, but the phone runs on Android.

The first cellular network that’s available as the fallback will be Sprint. The company might be planning, or already in the process, of signing other carriers onboard

The phone will have one phone number (no swapping between numbers for VoIP/cellular)

You’ll be able to send both calls and texts via Wifi

We’re hearing that pricing details are still being finalized, but they’re described as being much cheaper — perhaps around half as much — than anything else available for an Android device (i.e. a smartphone) through the traditional carriers, basically what we are hearing that it’s $19/mo/

No contracts so it seems that there a no strings attached.
