California based company Carrier IQ’s tracking software is sending information about users whereabouts and even key strokes to the carriers.

The company claims that is using this information to improve services and network coverage; however, carriers like AT&T, Sprint, Apple and T-Mobile USA are looking at some hefty legal suits if convicted of violating U.S. wiretapping and computer fraud laws.

While we await further comments from the company, lifehacker.com has blogged about an app that will allow for the detection of Carrier IQ on your smart phone without having to root your Android device. Here is a link to that article:
